About Us

In March 1974, a small group of enthusiastic swimmers formed a swim team in Davis, California, and began to hold regular coached workouts. That team, Davis Aquatic Masters (DAM), developed a spirit in those early days, one of dedication to the sport of swimming, for competition and fitness, and to the community of support, and camaraderie fostered by this shared enthusiasm. That spirit remains to this day.

DAM provides a place of belonging for over 500 members. Our members participate in local and national swim events, as well as in events that support our city, and events that celebrate the DAM spirit. DAM hosts regional and national swim events, as well as social events, including picnics, parties, and annual club events, all of which reinforce our belief in our team and in our community.

Each and every DAM member will tell you that DAM is more than just a masters swim team, and that belonging to DAM enriches many aspects of our lives.

We invite you to learn more about DAM: our mission, our history, and our governance

MISSION STATEMENT

Davis Aquatic Masters (DAM) is dedicated to providing a team environment that fosters physical fitness through swimming. Members are trained to gain the benefits of swimming, either competitively or for fitness, and are encouraged to compete in swim events, and to participate in civic events that benefit our community.

DAM is a member of United States Masters Swimming (USMS) and actively participates in Pacific Masters Swimming, our local chapter. DAM maintains an active role in the national swim community and hosts local, regional and national swim events throughout the year.

DAM focuses on the following four components.

The Bylaws is a separate document that describes the governing principles of DAM as a sustainable, public benefit nonprofit corporation. The bylaws specify the number of directors, the composition of the board of directors (board), and the duties of the president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer and can only be modified by vote of the members.
